I chose the industry of B2B sales and marketing as an industry as I have worked in it for the past 20 years and I was interested in the impact social media has had on this sector. I was interested in the pros and cons of using social media for brand awareness and creating sales opportunities and to investigate why LinkedIn is being under-valued by businesses today beyond recruitment and basic networking.

I chose Tony Eagleman as my guest speaker as he has been a pioneer in new business development for digital media. He is also a content creator and understands how critical it is to have a compelling message and build a proposition around your communication throughout your social media engagement. Tony is also a great talker and very experienced in producing Podcasts.

After thorough academic research, I narrowed my questions around Sales opportunities on LinkedIn and the use of content creation for B2B businesses. I discovered this was a different process from the traditional method of sales and new business development. Alarmingly, most of this sector was under-utilising this platform due to poor resources in digital marketing.

Recording and Editing

I chose to use Zoom as my recording software as I was comfortable with this and liked how it would split the audio and give me more editing capability. I also like the idea of seeing my guest in the interview as it made it more like a conversation.

Working with Audacity was easy to use however it took far longer than anticipated, this was due to the length of my initial interview (27 minutes). The challenge was to edit this while still answering my questions and ensuring the story flowed. I also had to insert record separately the intro and outro.

Conclusion and reflection

The recording went way too long and I should have done more interjecting. My questions were too open and not direct enough and while I got some good content from the overall conversation, I should have been more confident as an interviewer to round the speaker up and take control of the time. Overall the editing process was a great learning experience as a storyteller. It was interesting to see how you could control the flow and overall direction of the podcast through the content you chose to leave in or take out.
